{"id":15666,"date":"2012-04-13T09:52:24","date_gmt":"2012-04-13T16:52:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev-clm-blog.pantheonsite.io\/?p=15666"},"modified":"2012-04-13T09:52:25","modified_gmt":"2012-04-13T16:52:25","slug":"waiting-for-rain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/?p=15666","title":{"rendered":"Waiting for rain&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have just completed my first month working for the Springs Preserve here in Las Vegas, Nevada, and I am happy to report that it has been a wonderful month.\u00a0 The desert remains dormant due to a lack of rain, so our SOS work has been put on hold.\u00a0 Luckily I have been able to keep busy with work in the plant propagation facility and have been up to my ears in plants preparing for the Springs Preserve\u2019s biannual native plant sale.<\/p>\n<p>A part of the work that I do at the Springs Preserve is managing native Mojave plants in the plant propagation facility.\u00a0 Over the years the Springs Preserve has collected seed from native plants and, through experimenting with different propagation techniques, has determined which native plants can be grown in a nursery setting to be used for restoration projects.\u00a0 Their plant trials have been successful and thus the Springs Preserve has grown thousands of plants from native seed.\u00a0 As a fundraiser, these plants are sold every Spring and Fall to members of the community.<\/p>\n<p>Preparing for the plant sale was a bit exhausting since most of the work entailed moving plants and metal signs, but the sale itself was an absolute blast.\u00a0 It was great to chat with the locals and I loved seeing the plants that I cared for find a good home.\u00a0 We were able to offer plants that are not only beautiful, but also drought-tolerant and adapted to Mojave Desert conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Now that the plants sale is over, I am looking forward to spending more time scouting for plants for SOS.\u00a0 So far I have found the desert to be breathtakingly beautiful and am excited to explore more.\u00a0 Here is a photo of a desert favorite, the Desert Marigold (<em>Baileya multiradiata).<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15667\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dev-clm-blog.pantheonsite.io\/?attachment_id=15667\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-15667\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15667\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15667\" src=\"https:\/\/dev-clm-blog.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_1254-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_1254-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_1254-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_1254-682x1024.jpg 682w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15667\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Desert Marigold (Baileya multiradiata)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Allison Clark<\/p>\n<p>CLM Intern: Springs Preserve, Las Vegas, Nevada<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have just completed my first month working for the Springs Preserve here in Las Vegas, Nevada, and I am happy to report that it has been a wonderful month.\u00a0 The desert remains dormant due to a lack of rain, &hellip;
