{"id":18439,"date":"2012-07-24T10:25:28","date_gmt":"2012-07-24T17:25:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev-clm-blog.pantheonsite.io\/?p=18439"},"modified":"2012-07-24T10:25:28","modified_gmt":"2012-07-24T17:25:28","slug":"my-last-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/?p=18439","title":{"rendered":"My Last Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, I have just finished my last month with the Bureau of Land Management in Bakersfield, CA. \u00a0I feel like it went by both very slow and very fast. \u00a0I learned so much, met amazing people and did things I had never experienced before. \u00a0I got to study an ecosystem I had never before witnessed &#8211; the desert. \u00a0I saw what it was like to be in a region with very little water, and how the plants have come to survive and even thrive here. \u00a0I&#8217;ve learned amazing things about the native serpentine soils and how they support endemic plants, such an awesome relationship in my opinion and I recommend you read more about it <a title=\"Serpentine soils and endemic California plants\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fs.fed.us\/wildflowers\/communities\/serpentines\/adaptations.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. \u00a0I saw <a title=\"the Wild Kern\" href=\"http:\/\/0.tqn.com\/d\/flyfishing\/1\/0\/Y\/-\/-\/-\/20.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">breath-taking<\/a> stretches of the wild upper Kern River and lower sections where it sadly has been captured and turned into a lazy lake or a or a docile creek or.. nothing &#8211; just a <a title=\"the non-existant Kern\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/06\/05\/us\/05drought.html?_r=1\" target=\"_blank\">dry bed<\/a> where water used to flow in\u00a0plenty.<br \/>\nI learned so much about genera and species of California, and how to identify so many plant families based on their <a title=\"50 Common Families and their Descriptions\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rci.rutgers.edu\/~struwe\/pdfs\/Identifying%20major%20plant%20families_handoutCOLOR.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">characteristics<\/a>.
