\nWe moved to the desert,
\nClouds rarely existed unless they consisted of dirt.
\nThere were times we felt slightly lost and confused,
\nMy brand new boots already looked tattered and used.<\/p>\n

\nWe had training for weeks,
\nAll the while, salty sweat pouring down our cheeks.
\nWe were warned of the desert and how it could eat us for lunch,
\nAble to cook meals on the dashboard for brunch.<\/p>\n
Remember that time\u2026?
\nWe stared at the road ahead,
\nThinking, \u201cThere\u2019s no way we can make it with our current tread.\u201d
\nDriving down a wash for what seemed like forever,
\nRealizing that this internship was one mighty endeavor.<\/p>\n
Remember that time\u2026?
\nWe spent hours identifying unknown plants,
\nAfter days in the field getting holes in our pants.
\nThe aroma of the herbarium wafting through the air,
\nRunning veg transects even when the ground seemed bare.<\/p>\n
Remember that time…?
\nWe camped during a storm,
\nOr when we could hear nothing for a moment, but an insect swarm.
\nHaving to watch every step for rattlesnakes,
\nMarking every new monitoring site with a brightly painted stake.<\/p>\n
Remember that time\u2026?
\nWe spent an entire summer learning desert ecology,
\nCompletely out of range of almost any technology.
\nWe learned and accomplished more than I ever could have thought,
\nBut we tackled it all, no matter how hot.<\/p>\n
There are times when the unknown of my future fills me with fear,
\nBut the CLM internship provided me with skills and memories that I will forever hold dear.<\/p>\n
