{"id":3134,"date":"2010-09-01T04:25:27","date_gmt":"2010-09-01T11:25:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev-clm-blog.pantheonsite.io\/?p=3134"},"modified":"2010-09-01T04:25:27","modified_gmt":"2010-09-01T11:25:27","slug":"rain-in-the-desert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/?p=3134","title":{"rendered":"Rain in the Desert"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019ve been very busy since our last post! \u00a0It\u2019s monsoon season here, which means everything is starting to flower all at once. \u00a0The desert landscape certainly gets a lot greener when you add water, and some locations we\u2019ve been to many times look unfamiliar now that they\u2019re covered in thriving, blooming plants.\u00a0 This has been a great year for desert marigold (<em>Baileya multiradiata<\/em>).\u00a0 Driving into the Bootheel area, we saw what looked like two big yellow seas on the horizon.\u00a0 Overcome with curiosity, we walked about a mile to find that they were acre-wide expanses of densely-packed marigolds.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, with all of the flowering, there are more and more seed collections to do.\u00a0 While we were struggling to get one or two collections a week in July, now there are so many seeds to collect that it\u2019s becoming hard to keep up.\u00a0 Not to mention, now we have to be careful to keep the truck from getting stuck in the mud.<\/p>\n<p>We have also been busy helping with other projects going on around the office.\u00a0 The most consuming of these has been the search for the rare scurfpea near the Hatchet Mountains.
