Tortoise dinner. <\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">There are plants out here I am very fond of. \u00a0One popular one is the Joshua Tree <\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">(Yucca brevifolia)<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"> and who would not like this plant? \u00a0Dr Seuss could have thought up this plant in one of his books. \u00a0Edward Abby had thoughts on yuccas too:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4520\" style=\"width: 234px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dev-clm-blog.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/P4070074.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4520\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4520\" src=\"https:\/\/dev-clm-blog.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/P4070074-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/P4070074-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/P4070074-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/P4070074-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4520\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Yucca brevifolia<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div><em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">&#8220;Stepping carefully around the straggling prickly pear I come after a few paces over bare sandstone to a plant whose defensive weaponry makes the cactus seem relatively benign. \u00a0This one is formed of a cluster of bayonetlike leaves pointing up and outward, each stiff green blade tipped with a point as intense and penetrating as a needle. \u00a0Out of the core of this untouchable dagger&#8217;s-nest rises a slender stalk, waist-high, gracefully curved, which supports a heavy cluster of bell-shaped, cream-colored, wax coated, exquisitely perfumed flowers. \u00a0This plant, not a cactus but a member of the lily family, is a type of yucca called Spanish bayonet.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n<div><em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Despite its fierce defenses, or perhaps because of them, the yucca is as beautiful as it is strange, perfect in its place wherever that place may be&#8230;&#8221; <\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">pg 25 Desert Solitaire<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4522\" style=\"width: 234px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dev-clm-blog.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/P5110229.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4522\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4522\" src=\"https:\/\/dev-clm-blog.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/P5110229-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/P5110229-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/P5110229-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/P5110229-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4522\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Langloisia setosissima ssp. setosissima- best dinkaphyte ever<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I also like a few plants a friend termed as &#8220;dinkaphytes.&#8221; \u00a0These teeny tiny plants require you to get down on your hands and knees to see them. \u00a0My absolute favorite dinkaphyte is the liloc sunbonnet or Great Basin langloisia (<em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Langloisia setosissima ssp<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">.<\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"> setosissima<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">). \u00a0This plant is the perfect combination of beauty and ferocity. \u00a0I mean, look at those spines!
