Everything I do, anything form treating weeds to surveying for sensitive plant species, helps me to understand the landscape and how everything fits together. At the same time, the work has allowed me to spend extensive amounts of time in places I might have just driven by otherwise, places that might not have any dramatic features to draw in tourists but are still beautiful in their own right. For example, I wouldn\u2019t recommend the Constantia Fire burn area as a must-see for people visiting the area, but I really enjoyed being out there in the foothills of the Sierras.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5249\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dev-clm-blog.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_12701.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5249\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5249 \" src=\"https:\/\/dev-clm-blog.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_12701-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_12701-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_12701-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_12701-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_12701-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5249\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Red Rock Canyon, one of our survey sites<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Favorite new-to-me plants:<\/p>\n<p>Brown\u2019s peony (<em>Paeonia brownii)<\/em> with its weird, ground-facing, meaty-looking flowers that sprout green, surprisingly-large, tusk-like pods when in fruit.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Clustered broomrape (<em>Orobanche fasciculata<\/em>): fully parasitic, non-photosynthetic plants that don\u2019t really even have leaves. The entire plant is either yellow or pink.
