(Most individuals had senesced)<\/p><\/div>\n At the Mountaintop RD, I\u2019ve been continuing work on a guide to the invasive plant species of the SBNF.\u00a0 It\u2019s interesting\u00a0to read\u00a0through the literature and synthesize the available information. <\/span>\u00a0I enjoy thinking about how to format and present identification information in a way that is visual and understandable, especially for species that are more complicated to identify (such as <\/span>Myriophyllum<\/i>) Along with the invasive species guide, we are going to begin writing invasive species management plans for wilderness areas on the SBNF. <\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The holidays were relaxing.\u00a0 I hiked up Sugarloaf Mountain with a co-worker on Christmas Day.<\/span>\u00a0 Among other pebble plain species, we saw <\/span>Boechera dispar <\/i>(pinyon rock-cress).<\/span>\u00a0 Over New Year\u2019s I explored the northeast part of the Bighorn Mountain Wilderness.<\/span>\u00a0 Although not rare, <\/span>Scutellaria mexicana <\/i>(formerly <\/span>Salzaria<\/i>) was an interesting find.<\/span>\u00a0 It will be spectacular to see in bloom. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n My fellow intern and I have been collecting with a lichenologist from UC Riverside, who is compiling a lichen flora of the San Bernardino NF.\u00a0 Because lichens are so under-collected, we\u2019re finding a lot of species that haven\u2019t been found on the forest before.<\/span>\u00a0 We collected near Keller Cliffs (sandstone) on January 3, and noted giant chain fern (<\/span>Woodwardia fimbriata<\/i>) in the canyons on the way in.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Big Bear Ranger Station<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n US Forest Service<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" At the Mountaintop RD, I\u2019ve been continuing work on a guide to the invasive plant species of the SBNF.\u00a0 It\u2019s interesting\u00a0to read\u00a0through the literature and synthesize the available information. \u00a0I enjoy thinking about how to format and present identification … Continue reading
