<\/a>Astragalus albens<\/em> in bloom on February 23, 2014<\/p><\/div>\n Lomatium mohavense<\/em> in bloom on February 23, 2014<\/p><\/div>\n We\u2019re moving into the field season, and will be doing monitoring and starting early-season project survey work over the next few weeks.\u00a0 A storm last week brought some much-needed snow and rain to the mountains, but precipitation is still far below normal.<\/span>\u00a0 However, spring has arrived; down in the chaparral on the southern slopes, bush poppy (<\/span>Dendromecon rigida<\/i>) and chaparral whitethorn (<\/span>Ceanothus leucodermis<\/i>) are in bloom, as well as many other forbs.<\/span>\u00a0 Over on the desert side, a few Joshua trees (<\/span>Yucca brevifolia<\/i>) were beginning to bloom on Feb. 23, as well as other forbs, including <\/span>Lomatium mohavense<\/i> and the federally endangered Cushenbury milk vetch (<\/span>Astragalus albens<\/i>).<\/span>\u00a0 I\u2019ve been doing some work in ArcGIS, in preparation for moving older sensitive species occurrences into the FS database.<\/span>\u00a0 We are also continuing work on the invasive plant guide, and are in the final stages of editing and formatting.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Mountaintop Ranger District<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n San Bernardino NF, USDA-FS<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" We\u2019re moving into the field season, and will be doing monitoring and starting early-season project survey work over the next few weeks.\u00a0 A storm last week brought some much-needed snow and rain to the mountains, but precipitation is still … Continue reading <\/a>
