{"id":54650,"date":"2014-04-25T13:48:32","date_gmt":"2014-04-25T20:48:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev-clm-blog.pantheonsite.io\/?p=54650"},"modified":"2014-04-25T13:48:32","modified_gmt":"2014-04-25T20:48:32","slug":"rare-plant-detecting-in-wenatchee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/?p=54650","title":{"rendered":"Rare plant detecting in Wenatchee!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">My transition from British Columbia to Washington over the past few weeks has been positive and exciting &#8211; filled with hikes in the sagebrush hills\u00a0and some\u00a0serious botanizing! <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">My main projects so far have involved rare plant detecting. We (I and a fellow intern, Rosemary) just got back from a few days of camping and rare plant\u00a0monitoring down in the foothills of the Blue Mountains (southeastern corner of the state). \u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">The days leading up to this field week consisted of looking over field reports and sightings from other botanists, some with Washington Rare Plant Care and the BLM, in order to ensure we were targeting the right places. Many of the sites and plant communities we read about had not been visited since the 1990s! We were on the hunt for a small list of threatened plant species, including <\/span><i><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Lomatian rollinsii <\/span><\/i><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Ribes ceruem <\/span><\/i><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">var.<\/span><i><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\"> colubrium.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\"> And\u2026hurray! We found a larger population than expected. I am finding myself progressively more interested in the importance of people in conservation and land management issues. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">My favorite part of\u00a0this internship so far has been working with a wide variety of professionals and interest groups in land management. Although focusing on botany, I really enjoy seeing how all these different fields and skills come together in a complimentary way, with the end goal of responsible management and stewardship.
