In the thick of summer, I am in the thick of seed collection.\u00a0 The target list that my mentor and I developed consists of over 30 species and I am the only CLM intern here!\u00a0 So, I had to solicit the help of some\u00a0great local Youth Corps.\u00a0 They work\u00a010hr days, so\u00a0with transportation that adds up to over 12hr days for me (leaving not sooo much blog time).<\/p>\n

Reason 1.\u00a0Had 12 hr work day,\u00a0the majority of\u00a0which was at\u00a0Yaquina Head Lighthouse collecting Gaultheria shallon. <\/em><\/p>\n

Reason 2. Spent a wonderful morning with my mentor schooling Youth Corps on how “mossome” nonvascular plants are!<\/p>\n

Then my parents came to visit all the way from MD!<\/p>\n

Reason 3.\u00a0 Had 12 hr work day,\u00a0some\u00a0of\u00a0which was collecting Rubus leucodermis\u00a0<\/em>with a great crew.<\/p>\n

Reason 4.\u00a0 Had 2 12 hr work days,\u00a0the majority of\u00a0which was collecting Bromus vulgaris <\/em>and carinatus <\/em>as well as Elymus Glaucus.\u00a0 <\/em>We need 10 pounds of each species for BLM grow out, and I could not have gotten the collection started without the Columbia River Youth Corps!<\/p>\n
