{"id":74036,"date":"2017-01-20T14:50:02","date_gmt":"2017-01-20T21:50:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev-clm-blog.pantheonsite.io\/?p=74036"},"modified":"2017-01-20T14:50:02","modified_gmt":"2017-01-20T21:50:02","slug":"prineville-blm-the-holidays-are-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.clminternship.org\/?p=74036","title":{"rendered":"Prineville BLM: The holidays are coming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Things have really slowed down in the office. \u00a0Not only have people been leaving left and right, there is just a different atmosphere. \u00a0It doesn&#8217;t help that temperatures have recently plunged to their normal range, and that daylight savings time stole an extra hour of daylight from everybody. \u00a0It is really a drag that it gets dark at 5. \u00a0Getting off of work and having an hour of daylight left can sometimes be demoralizing as well. \u00a0But I guess this happens every winter and we just have to adjust.<\/p>\n<p>However, shifting back to work I have been spending much more time in the office. \u00a0While it is nice to not be totally worn out after a long day, I am starting to really miss the field. \u00a0I am still managing to get out every once in a while whether it is to locate a cave that we missed or to try to finish up some wildlife clearances from earlier in the season. \u00a0The cold isn&#8217;t too bad, but I am really missing the diversity of birds. \u00a0Occasionally I see some interesting birds, but this is mostly while driving instead of actually out when conducting surveys or looking for caves. \u00a0I managed to see sandhill cranes, snow geese, trumpeter swans, bald eagles, belted kingfishers as well as the more normal species. \u00a0While these birds are fairly exciting, these are rarities and the total number of birds I have seen has taken a nose dive recently. \u00a0Hopefully this will be remedied by an influx of winter birds (hopefully Evening Grosbeaks)!!!!<\/p>\n<p>However, in my time off I did manage to locate a lifer that I had been searching for a long time. \u00a0With the help of a local bird guru, I found and took some fairly poor photos of a barn owl. \u00a0I went back there later with a tripod to try to get a better photo, but the barn owls were not cooperating. \u00a0I am planning on heading back again to get a really nice photo.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-74037\" src=\"https:\/\/dev-clm-blog.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/1-DSCN3249-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"1-dscn3249\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-74038\" src=\"https:\/\/dev-clm-blog.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2-DSCN3250-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"2-dscn3250\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-74039\" src=\"https:\/\/dev-clm-blog.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/3-DSCN3251-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"3-dscn3251\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Looking forward, the holiday season is upon us. \u00a0I am really excited about having 3 days off for Thanksgiving, but I am not really sure what I am going to do. \u00a0I might just take some time and relax without really doing anything, but I think more realistically I am going to go out and pick up some other new bird species. \u00a0After that I am really excited about Christmas as I am planning on heading home and spending time with my family. \u00a0I cannot wait to update you once again after all of the holiday goodness.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Things have really slowed down in the office. \u00a0Not only have people been leaving left and right, there is just a different atmosphere. \u00a0It doesn&#8217;t help that temperatures have recently plunged to their normal range, and that daylight savings time &hellip;
