20 Ounce Cheeseburgers, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Locals at the bar, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fields of Castilleja, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the old tire tracks of a car. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seasons change, the Sun disappears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Autumn is now upon us and in creep the pecuniary fears. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I never imagined that I would enjoy Fargo as much as I do <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s plenty of large remnants up there, just waiting for me and you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever make it back to Nelson Prairie<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the Mahnomen landscape is burned into my mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just getting there, driving over countless ponds, gives you such a rush.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visions of Showy Ladies Slippers hiding beneath the brush.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But up there, as in many places across the nation, they are in a bind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So much land, so few people, such little time – its oddly airy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have no funding for permanent staff” the land managers all say, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Those in Washington are always getting in our way!” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grandstanding, Misallocating Money, and Freezing Up in real time, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It truly does make one wonder, is this coincidence or design?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the remnants do not care, and without fire, pruning and love – they will degrade <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alas, it does not matter, as the politicians will still be paid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winter is quickly approaching, and it is that special time of year, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where we send out never ending job applications, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Too many to count,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we hold our breath in fear. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When will I work next, who will I work for, will I have to travel far? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In these moments, I’ll venture back to Nelson Prairie, mentally,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then stop for a 20 Ounce Cheeseburger at Mainline Bar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
